There is a new trend rearing its ugly head that has residents seeing red – streetlights and the times they are burning and not.
TLR has received complaints from residents from all over Roodepoort, complaining about the fact that the ‘save electricity’ message get shoved down their throats, yet streetlights are burning 24/7.
In some cases it even goes further where streetlights burn during the day but not at night, causing residents to have to leave outside lights on for security – which results in high electricity bills anyway.
Surprisingly (sarcasm alert!) it seems that City Power can not get it right.
Then there are two residents (one from Discovery and one from Roodepoort CBD) who want to warn the public of a van with a ladder on top, apparently stealing electricity cables in broad daylight, bargaining on the public thinking that they are contractors who are busy working on these cables.
When approached, they say that they first have to take the damaged cables to the depot and then bring new ones.
According to one official contractor of City Power, contractors have to bring the new cables with them when they replace the damaged ones.
Louis Grobler of Security in Practice (Sip) also warns the public against hoax meter readers doing the rounds. Four males and a female is driving around in a white Isuzu bakkie with DND Meter Installations painted on the side.
They try to gain access to properties by claiming that they have to install meters but when asked for a municipal letter they get very agitated, especially the female.
