Several Randburg Shotokan Academy karatekas participated in the 29th National Karate Championships hosted by the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) in Pretoria on 7 September 2019.

The students from the dojo were impressive in their respective age groups as they were placed in the top three positions at the tournament.

Some of the black and brown belts from the dojo were selected for the ISKF World Shoto Cup in 2020 in the UK.

Academy Manager, Melissa Pillay, said, “The dojo is proud of everyone who participated at the National Champs and the karatekas have shown outstanding discipline and strong character”.

Randburg Shotokan Karate Academy was founded in 2016 by Sensei Prishen Pillay. With humble beginnings, they began in Honeydew Ridge with five students.

In 2017, they took over Bosmont Karate Club, which was then managed by Sensei GK Niemand and now they have an ongoing growing karate academy uplifting the Bosmont community.

Currently the dojo trains in the Leap Nursery School hall in Honeydew Ridge, next to Eagle Canyon Estate.
