Honeydew SAPS and SWCG share the spoils in league opener

SWGC scored 3 goals through some calm finishing from their attackers but discipline and off-the-ball incidents nearly spoiled an entertaining game with Honeydew SAPS fighting back to level up at the final whistle.

South West Gauteng College (SWGC) missed out on the chance to bag maximum points in the opening match of the SAPS West Rand Soccer League after playing out to a 3-3 draw with rivals Honeydew SAPS at the Davidsonville Stadium on Wednesday, February 15.

SWGC created by far the better chances in the first half but they were unable to make use of all their chances and height advantage up front.

Tempers soon flared as Honeydew SAPS captain was booked for his involvement in a tussle after his player had made a bad tackle on an SWGC player.

Once the situation calmed down, SWGC looked to make their experience and height count as cBantu Nkutha and Lebona Maku tried their luck from distance but neither managed to trouble the visitor’s goalkeeper.

SWGC remain fourth in the standings, although they are now tied with Honeydew SAPS on a single point, with the men in blue sitting in fifth position on the log.
