Triple Threat Kickboxing team earn nine medals at SAKA championships

Wade Rendall is proud of his performance considering the team's limited experience.

Triple Threat’s domination is continuing into 2023.

Wade Rendall’s troops travelled to Lephalale for the South African Kickboxing Championships held between April 28 and 30. Six fighters representing Central Gauteng returned home with nine medals, including four gold. As well as the fighters, Triple Threat was represented by team coach Camille Goldstone and Wade himself as Sensei, head coach, and tournament official.

Nkosinathi Mokoena earned a silver medal in her first appearance at a national event while Chloe Assad won two gold medals, one in the light-contact and the other in the light-kick categories. Thando Mahlangu earned a gold medal in the low-kick category and showed great character to earn silver when he took on a fighter in a higher-weight category due to him not having an opponent. Rachelle Seyfferdt was equally courageous winning gold in the kick-light but silver in the light-contact final, losing to a Grand Champ of Champs.

Brett Heslop and Mohammed Kathrada may have not returned with gold medals but a mix of bad luck and fate were the only stumbling blocks. Brett earned bronze in the kick-light category but unfortunately had to pull out in the semifinal due to a toe injury. Mohammed fought through a tough group of 11 fighters but had to settle for silver, losing to the tournament’s Grand champ of champs, Ahmad Mohammed.

Proud of the fighter’s consistency, Wade stated that it was an incredible achievement for a team that only had two to three years of experience.
