Ruimsig Stadium refurbishment project nearing completion
The Ruimsig Stadium overhaul is not expected to impact athletes and sports clubs training at the facility.
A R3m refurbishment project is under way at Ruimsig Athletics Stadium, which is expected to be completed by June 30.
According to Vincent Mabuza, the project’s client liaison officer, it started on April 7, and they were delayed by paperwork and other administrative processes. Despite those delays, Mabuza is confident that the project will be in its final phase at the end of this month.

“We are pushing to complete this within the time and allocated funds we have. Our workers are working at weekends to make sure we finished at our promised time,” said Mabuza.

The refurbishment project is expected to replace or renovate most of the critical parts of the stadium, that includes the following:
• Roof waterproofing
• Tiles in the VIP area
• Electrical works
• Damaged ceiling
• Carpet tiles
• Replacing damaged sliding doors
• Deep cleaning of carpets
Ward 97 councillor Jacques Hoon told the Roodepoort Northsider earlier that the refurbishment will ensure a safer, more functional, and aesthetically improved facility for all users, fostering greater engagement and participation from the surrounding community.
The project continues progressing without disruptions to the track area where athletes normally train. The work is limited to the stadium building, and it is not expected to affect public access or use of the facility.
