Cape Town national competitions bring success for local gymnasts

A 16-member trampoline squad and Level 9 acro pair deliver top performances at national events.

The 24Seven Gymnastics and Trampoline team returned from the 2026 national competition with plenty to celebrate after winning an impressive medal haul.

Held in Cape Town from October 2 to 4, the acro competition saw Ava Geldenhuys and Christo van der Walt claim silver medals, including an overall silver medal in the mixed pair category.

Their outstanding performance also earned them their Level 9 Gauteng senior colours.

The pair have been training together for the past two years, bringing a wealth of experience to their partnership. Christo has been involved in the sport for 10 years, while Ava has more than five years of experience.

Reflecting on the achievement, both Ava and Christo said they are proud of reaching this milestone in their gymnastics journey.

“I’m proud of this achievement, as this is the first time I have reached this level in my gymnastics career,” said Christo.

National Trampoline success

The team also had a total of 16 gymnasts competing in the trampoline event held from September 24 to 27, also in Cape Town.

Mianè Nel, Eliana Dwayi and Mianè Dalton participated in an interclub national competition where they each claimed gold and silver medals in their respective categories.

JT Roux, Mia Horak, Ava-Grace Pretorius and Aphiwe Chiliza also trialled for the Region 5 team set to compete in December.

Coach beams with pride

Luitha Roux, the head coach of the team, expressed extreme pride in her team, saying they perform to the best of their ability in all competitions.

“I’m extremely proud of every gymnast for the work they put in every day. It’s hard work, and they train very hard. We are also grateful to their parents for their continuous support,” she said.
