Women’s Day shenanigans in Jozi

The City of Gold offers loads to do on Women's Day this year. Here are a few interesting events in, and not too far from, Joburg:

You might plan on sleeping in on the second public holiday in August, but Women’s Day is day filled with interesting events in Jozi that could relax you more than passing time in front of the TV.

Here are a few things you could keep yourself busy with, other than sleeping in or watching TV, on Women’s Day in Joburg:

– Emmarentia Live 

From 9am at Emmarentia Dam, the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens. See the likes of Gangs of Ballet, Freshlyground and Mango Groove.

– Women’s Day Warrior Flow

From 10.30 till noon presented by Melissa Berry at Hotpod Yoga, 9 Gleneagles Road, Greenside. Time to flaunt your flexibility.

– Kasi Food and Drink Festival

From 10am till 8pm at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown. Make sure you’re hungry when you arrive.

– Women’s Day Fun Fayre

Starts at 10am at 38 Aries Road, Sundowner. You can have your tarot cards read or receive crystal healing.

And for those who don’t mind the drive:

– Women’s Day Retreat 

From 10am till 6pm at The Farm Inn Country Hotel in Pretoria. The event promises a buffet lunch,Game Drive and “awesome” company. Sounds good.

– Woman’s Day Boat Cruise

From 1pm till 7pm on the Hartebeespoort Dam. Who doesn’t love the idea of sipping on red wine as teh sun sets over the Magaliesberg mountains?

Don’t forget: South Africa’s Women’s Day is a day celebrated every year on 9 August, commemorating the 1956 march of approximately 20 000 women to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to petition against the country’s pass laws.
