Four years of hard work, tireless negotiations and painful sacrifice have delivered Honour Wrestling Association (HWA) to local broadcasting’s promised land. HWA are proud to announce a 13 episode, three series television deal with Soweto TV.
The massive injection of life into the professional wrestling scene will bring high-octane wrestling directly into the living rooms of fans every Saturday at 4pm, with two repeats during the week. “This is an incredible opportunity for our wrestlers. We have been the busiest promotion in the country, making this deal a huge achievement,” said HWA founder, Steve Eden.
The free-to-air channel provides the perfect platform for HWA to reach a previously untapped audience and a wrestling-mad demographic. Plans are also in the pipeline to perform four shows in Soweto, as well as hold open trials in the area as they search for a new superstar from the previously disadvantaged community. A national roadshow is also on the cards as they hope to secure the future of wrestling in South Africa.
The love of wrestling and a desire to showcase their abilities are central to the motivations of the HWA talent. “If you give out blessings, you get blessing in return,” said Steve, who regularly puts together free charity shows in order to bring their brand of pro wrestling to those who otherwise would not have the chance. Their next scheduled charity gig is for underprivileged kids at a caravan park in Benoni on 21 November.
The first season has already been taped and was done so with just 15 people on set under strict Covid-19 regulation compliance. With popular names like HWA South African title holder ‘Mr Money’ and the introduction of their deliciously fiery female divas, HWA’s ascent to the summit of the South African wrestling mountain is almost complete.
