Photo enthusiasts zoom in on Rosebank

ROSEBANK – Lenses zoomed in to focus on the major buildings in Rosebank as the Joburg Photowalkers took a three-hour tour in the area.

On 14 September, Johannesburg In Your Pocket offered the Joburg Photowalkers the opportunity to explore Rosebank from its rooftops. The Joburg Photowalkers are a group of enthusiastic Joburg photographers who meet up on weekends to explore interesting city neighbourhoods on foot at a variety of angles.

The very informal, free-of-charge gathering of enthusiasts was co-founded in 2009 by local photography enthusiast Mark Straw.

In April this year, Johannesburg In Your Pocket launched a mini-guide to Rosebank called Rosebank In Your Pocket in collaboration with the Rosebank Management District who has embarked on a bold campaign to highlight the district’s identity as Joburg’s most walkable and pedestrian-friendly neighbourhood.

As part of their partnership in this ongoing project to present Rosebank’s friendly, open and walkable urban lifestyle, In Your Pocket has also been training the Rosebank Management District’s ‘ambassador’ team of security staff in specialised destination knowledge and six of these Rosebank ambassadors also joined in the early morning Rosebank photo-walk.

The Joburg Photowalkers Rosebank In Your Pocket tour started on Bath Avenue just before 6 am where the eager photo-walkers were already primed and ready to go, many of them already with their tripods set up in the middle of the quiet streets to capture the final moments of the twilight hour.

The three-hour photo-walk tour took place from the top of five major Rosebank buildings: Rosebank Towers, The Link, President Place, The Trumpet at Keyes Art Mile and The Tyrwhitt.
