Importance of a date night in a relationship

A successful relationship is one that involves growth and, just like anything that grows, it needs to be nurtured. Date night is one of the many ways to do just that. More often than not, people seem to think that date night is a luxury that only those with time and money can afford. That could not be further from the truth. “We are now in our fifth year of our relationship and every day
spent together or away from each other makes it more apparent just how much date night is more of a necessity than it is a luxury.” said Sethu Magwentshu, a Joburg resident.

A mistake people seem to make is to think that this involves a movie, an expensive meal at a fancy restaurant and the works. Date nights are meant to be there for you and your partner just to have some time alone together.
Sometimes staying in and disconnecting from the world can do the trick.

Putting away the phones and the iPads and really being present for your partner can be a form of a date night. “In life, we are so busy doing things that we forget to, just be! Date night has helped us find a way to put the ‘doing’ on hold for a bit and focus on ‘being’ there for each other – being present.
It’s more than just about movies and restaurants. There is a certain level of intimacy that can be reached when done right,”Magwentshu added.

Another mistake that people make is to think that once they get into a relationship there is no more growing to be done. However, when you are in a
relationship, personal growth is just as important as the growth of the relationship. Date night is one way to try and achieve this growth with your
partner. So, put your busy schedule on hold for a few hours, put away
your gadgets and fi nally make good on that promise you’ve been
putting on hold for the longest time. Date night should not have to be a huge sacrifice, just a pleasurable interlude.
