JRA increases barricading around Jan Smuts and Rothesay avenues after a second accident

Inclement weather continues to delay repairs on the Jan Smuts and Rothesay avenues’ excavations, leading to a second accident.

Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has increased the barricades around the excavations on Jan Smuts and Rothesay avenues.

Yellow jersey barriers can be seen on site, after a second vehicle, a taxi ferrying passengers on April 14, swerved into one of the longstanding excavations.

This is the second accident reported at the site. On February 13, a vehicle also plunged into the excavation during wet weather conditions.

JRA’s head of operations Khaya Gqibitole explained that repairs on the excavation were scheduled for April 13, but had to be postponed due to inclement weather. “JRA will provide a full update on April 16.”
