Mogodi and Molepo hope for Khoza’s Midas touch to rub off them to

JOBURG – The two big guns of Alex and Soweto football meet Irvin 'Iron Duke' Khoza.

The big guns of Alex and Soweto football came face to face with the ‘Iron Duke’ of the Premier Soccer League but the occasion was sombre.

Phil Mogodi of the Soweto Football Association and his Alex counterpart, Maisha Molepo of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association, met the master of football administrator, the chairperson of the PSL, Dr Irvin ‘Iron Duke’ Khoza.

The pair of Mogodi and Molepo met Khoza at the recent South African Football Association’s annual congress held at the Sandton Convention Centre on 8 December but the meeting was sombre as the master of football administration in Mzansi had no harsh words at all for them.

The meeting was sombre and most probably, Khoza, a son of Alex, shared his memories of the township where he honed his football administrative skills. To Mogodi, the ‘Iron Duke’, who’s now a Diepkloof resident, might have just said so far so good.

Khoza’s football management resembles a Midas touch as everything he has touched turns into gold. Under his astute leadership, the PSL has just announced a milestone achievement in its history, reaching a whopping R1 billion profit margin and the National First Division has just bagged a major sponsor in GladAfrica. Maybe it too could soon follow in the footsteps of its PSL big brother!

For Mogodi and Molepo, meeting Khoza might have aroused wishful thinking that his Midas touch rubs off on them too, especially for their new-found land of Safa Joburg Region, where they are chairperson and deputy respectively.
