Walk the Kili climb at Old Parks

Show solidarity with the Sunshine Centre Association's Climb 'cause We Care Kilimanjaro Campaign and help raise funds for children who face daily challenges.

Supporters of the cause will have the opportunity to walk the distance of the climb in the peaceful grounds of Bordeaux South’s Old Parktonian Sports Club this month.

“The children of the Sunshine Association Centre and Finkelstein TLC face daily mountains, daily challenges. So we’re taking on a mountain challenge to help them,” said the Centre’s Shannon O’Keefe.

She will be joined by seven others in an attempt to summit the world’s highest free-standing mountain, Kilimanjaro, in September.

The group hope to raise R1 million with the sponsored climb for the continued operational costs of the Craigpark-based centre and Sandringham’s Finkelstein TLC school, which both cater for special-needs children.

As part of the build-up and to help with fundraising, a Walk ’cause you Care event at the sports club has been planned for 21 July.

Participants can join Lance Metz, the youngest South African to summit Mount Everest, Lee den Hont, the third South African woman to summit Mount Everest, and the Steel Wings Harley Davidson bikers for the 5895m walk – the distance the team will climb to summit Kilimanjaro.

Proceeds from the walk will benefit children at the Sunshine Centre Association and Finkelstein TLC school.

Registration for the walk starts at 9am, and the walk will begin at 10am.
