Ravid tries to find amicable paid curb-side parking sollution
NORWOOD - Key business players met Ward 73 Councillor Marcelle Ravid in an effort to find a way forward in their opposition to paid curb-side parking.
The meeting followed the announcement by the city council that paid curb-side parking would be going ahead in many suburbs including Norwood, Greenside, Melville, Emmarentia, Rosebank, Roodepoort, Birnam, Parkview, Sandton, Florida, Fordsburg, Linden, Rivonia, Craighall Park and Northcliff.
Ravid said a petition opposing the parking scheme on Grant Avenue and surrounds had already been drawn-up with 106 signatures garnered so far. She said, “These are mainly from the traders on Grant Avenue who say that this will seriously impact their business.”
Ravid said the city council was determined to roll out the plan as it had done in Parkhurst despite a public outcry.
Ravid added that she hoped the public participation process would yield the desired outcome through negotiation and a beneficial outcome for both sides. “There will be no point if the public’s views are not taken into account and considered seriously. The city has promised to consult communities before the implementation.”
