Kes paint athletics meet red

Houghton's King Edward VII School athletes retained their status as "champions of track and field" when they won both A and B divisions at the 2013 Inter-High Athletics Meet.

The event was hosted by Parktown Boys’ High School.

Lisa Slooten of Kes said the school were the favourites for this year’s meet, following last year’s victory – but the 2013 team did not take this for granted.

“They worked all season long to be in the running for the 2013 title,” she said. “This year’s athletes remained unbeaten all season long, and many a longstanding school record was broken during the season.”

The school’s Patrick Duvenhage broke the record for U15 discus with 60.23m, Menzi Mthembu broke the U19 triple jump record, and Mandla Ntlumayo broke the U15 800m sprint record with a time of 2 minutes 01.35 seconds.
