Art gallery to host artists at upcoming sessions
Rubixcube will excite in June with their new figure drawing sessions to be hosted at the gallery.
The Rubixcube art gallery has an exciting event lined up for experienced and emerging artists this June.
The gallery, located in Maboneng will be hosting figure drawing sessions from 10 June and these sessions will be an opportunity for artists to delve into the intricate world of this type of art.
According to Jotam Schoeman, host of the upcoming sessions, figure drawing has always been a traditional art form and one fascinating to study and explore.
“People have always been interested in drawing nude figures, even now as it has evolved into abstract drawing,” he said.
He added that the sessions would be unique for artists because they would get the opportunity to draw a figure, using a nude model as a basis, in an imaginative and unique way.
“In modern times, figure drawing has become different because you not only draw what you see, but also you get the opportunity to use your imagination,” he added.
He added that the art gallery had always wanted to host a session of this nature, but it was only recently that the idea was realised.
The two-and-a-half hour session will host 10 people but, despite this, Schoeman promises to be interesting, and comprises different aspects of figure drawing.
“The first 30 minutes will be basic drawing of the figure, while the remaining two hours will allow artists to focus on particular aspects of interest to them,” he explained.
He also mentioned that it was the first time a session of this nature was hosted by Rubixcube, making it a unique addition by the gallery.
Schoeman added that the sessions would run every Tuesday and Wednesday based on popular demand.
“I’ll be hosting the sessions for the duration of my four-month residency at the gallery, and then it’ll be up to my successor to continue with them,” he added.
Schoeman is also an exhibiting artist at the gallery. Space is limited for the sessions with booking being essential.
