Killarney Country Club hosts CSA breakfast awards

Old Eds cricketer, Yaseen Valli lost out to SA U19 team-mate Aiden Markram for the Cricket South Africa U19 Cricketer of the Year title at the sixth annual Cricket South Africa (CSA) Breakfast Awards.

The awards ceremony, where the stars of amateur cricket are honoured, was held at the Killarney Country Club.

Valli and Markram were members of SA U19 squad who won the International Cricket Council U19 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates earlier this year.

Valli, who is also captain of the Gauteng U19 team, scored 240 runs and took 11 wickets in the world cup tournament.

Old Eds member, Devon Conway, who was voted the Gauteng Strikers Batsman of the Year at the Gauteng Cricket Board awards dinner recently, also accepted the Provincial One-Day Cricketer of the Year award.

Keegan Petersen accepted the Three-Day Cricketer of the Year award and Ross McMillan was named the Provincial T20 Cricketer of the Year.

Cricket South Africa chief executive, Haroon Lorgat conveyed his congratulations and gratitude to the often forgotten heroes of the game.

He said, “This day is designed to celebrate more than our national heroes. It embraces all aspects of our domestic cricket, starting with those selfless individuals who introduce our youngsters to softball cricket through the KFC Mini-Cricket Programme, through youth and club cricket all the way to the semi-professional and franchise ranks.”

The Breakfast Awards were followed by the CSA Golf invitational where the Proteas play a round of golf with key stakeholders of cricket.
