Yeoville police are upbeat after what they described as “very successful weekend operations” in combating crime in the precinct.

This follows the arrest of 39 people for various offences.

Yeoville police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji said, “The arrests follow a series of crime prevention operations around the Yeoville policing area.”

Malatji said the suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunitions, theft, robbery, assaults, driving while under the influence of alcohol, possession of dagga, fraud, dealing in liquor without a licence, illegal immigrants and theft of motor vehicles.

He added that most of the suspects were expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court.
