Police arrest ‘armed’ robber

Yeoville police arrested a man for allegedly robbing a woman using a toy gun.

According to police the incident took place at the corner of Webb Street and Joe Slovo Drive. Yeoville police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji said the suspect allegedly approached the woman on her way to work, pointed the ‘firearm’ at her and robbed her of her belongings. Malatji said, “The woman went to the police station to report the matter and the police reacted swiftly and found the suspect trying to rob another woman nearby.”

He added that police managed to find all the valuables that were taken from the woman. Malatji said the toy gun was recovered from the suspect and he was expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of robbery.
