Norwood police managed to track down a man who allegedly assaulted and sexually abused his girlfriend.
According to police, the incident took place in Grant Avenue, when the suspect went home and allegedly started to accuse his girlfriend of sleeping with his friend, whom he had left her with. Norwood police spokesperson Constable Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane said the woman told the police that the suspect started to assault her with his fists and then tried to strangle her. Tsoanyane said, “The suspect then took his girlfriend to the bedroom where he allegedly forced her to undress and lie on top of the bed. He then sexually assaulted her.”
Tsoanyane said the suspect later allegedly told his girlfriend that he could ‘see’ that she didn’t sleep with anyone else [after he physically inspected her] and told her that she could sleep. The spokesperson said, “The following morning the complainant managed to escape and went to report the matter at the police station.” The police traced and arrested the 26-year-old suspect and he was expected to appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court.
