Mexican guitarist is coming to Wits
There must be something in the water in Jalisco, Mexico.
The Mexican region gave birth to master guitar player Carlos Santana as well as virtuoso guitar player Paco Renteria.
Wits Theatre and the embassy of Mexico is proud to host Renteria in a once-off concert at Wits Theatre.
The flamboyant guitar player and his band will perform at a concert titled, One Concert around the World on 17 September.
Rentaria’s style is known for its explosive Latino passion combined with sensual guitar playing strumming he has dubbed Free Play. It is a mix of Latin, pop, jazz, salsa and American standards.
Renteria is also known for his larger than life stage presence, dominating with both his smouldering Latino looks and an effortless charm that turns his concerts into an experience.
He started playing at the age of seven. By the time he was 22, Rentería was performing with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Guadalajara. Since then, he has composed more than 300 pieces, and performed with the likes of Santana and Luciano Pavarotti.
He performs with an amazing ensemble that includes Emmanuel Macias Enríquez on violin, Jorge Bernal Reyes on bass guitar, Federico Foglia playing drums and Luis Alberto Quintero Arreola on rhythm guitar.
In addition, he will be leading a workshop with Wits School of Music students on the same day.
