Tenant seriously injured after landlord attack
ORANGE GROVE - An Orange Grove landlord found himself on the wrong side of the law after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his tenant.
The police said it was alleged that the landlord, who owns a house in 3rd Street, threatened to shoot his tenant and later assaulted the tenant who was in the process of moving out of the house he was renting.
Norwood police spokesperson Constable Nonzwakazi Tsoanyane said, “The tenant was busy vacating the room which he was renting in 3rd street in Orange Grove. According to the victim the suspect further damaged his [the tenant’s] vehicle and the estimated damage of the vehicle is R7 000.”
Tsoanyane added that the tenant sustained serious injuries due to the alleged assault. The 40-year-old landlord was later arrested in connection with the assault.
“The suspect was expected to appear at Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court soon to face charges of common assault, intimidation and malicious damage to property.”
