Summer fete at Tarentaal Village

LYNDHURST - Residents and their families gathered for a day of shopping and festivities in the sun at the annual Tarentaal Village fête.

Community members enjoyed the beginning of the summer sunshine at Tarentaal Village on 27 September as they strolled between clothes stalls, nursery stalls and a popular jumble sale while listening to mellow music and smelling boerewors rolls in the air.

The fête takes place every September at the Rand Aid-run retirement village, and for many of Tarentaal’s residents who take part as vendors, it is the culmination of months of planning. Maryna van Zyl, who sells seedlings and plants alongside quaint garden decorations and tools, begins to plant and nurture her green wares six months ahead of the fête each year.

Also in attendance were several ‘angels’ from nearby Inyoni Creek Retirement Village, selling kitchenware and other items in support of Thembalani, a place of hope and shelter for the homeless. Proceeds of the stall went towards maintenance and improvement of the Thembalani home based in Lombardy East.

The rest of the fête’s festivities, meanwhile, raised funds for Tarentaal’s Christmas dinner, to take place at the end of November.
