Parktown stands firm despite Transvalia defeat

Massive defensive efforts and determination from Parktown High School for Girls stood out, despite a 5–0 loss to Hoërskool Transvalia in their U14 hockey fixture.

Parktown High School for Girls displayed teamwork and resilience during their U14 hockey fixture against Hoërskool Transvalia on May 27 at Parktown High’s hockey Astroturf.

Transvalia dominated for most of the match, applying pressure in the first half. This resulted in three short corners, leading to the first goal of the game as Transvalia took an early lead.

The game progressed with goal attempts from Parktown failing dismally, but Transvalia finding the back of net repeatedly, resulting in a halftime score of 5–0.

In the second half, Parktown were forced to defend most of the time. Their goalkeeper, however, delivered a great performance, with a series of significant saves stopping Tranvalia from taking the score even further.

The match ended with a Transvalia 5–0 victory against Parktown.

Lisa-Mari Meyer, Transvalia’s coach, said that despite her girls being a bit unfit for the game they really played well. “We really picked up the pace in the second half, so we gained composure and it was a really good game.”

Parktown coach Maxine Hannan said although there were moments where being on the defence let the team down, there were still many positive moments within the match.

“We had a little bit of a lapse in land marking and defence, and I think that is what let us down, but overall we played a really nice, hard game.”

Hannan added that her team continued to work hard throughout the game and showed improvement as the match progressed.

The game highlighted both Transvalia’s attacking strength and Parktown’s drive to keep going despite the pressure.
