Hailing South African heritage

LOMBARDY EAST - Staff members, volunteers and residents came together to celebrate their heritage at Thembalami Care Centre.

The Rand Aid Association care centre, which provides frail care and a home for 180 elderly people, was awash with colour during Heritage Day celebrations held on 26 September.

Staff members and volunteers, who visit the care centre three times a week as part of its Zamokuhle outreach programme, donned bright, traditional wear and shared traditional food in celebration of South Africa’s heritage.

Residents took part in the festivities, watching as cultural dances were performed, many of them led enthusiastically by student nurse Zandile Ndlovu. Major ethnic groups were represented including Zulu, Venda, Sotho, Pedi, Swazi, Tsonga, Xhosa and Shona.
