Heritage gardens to raise funds for charity
WESTCLIFF – Three magnificent heritage homes in Westcliff will open their gardens to the public on 4 October between 10am and 3pm.
The gardens will raise funds for the Suid-Afrikaanse Vrouefederasie which offers social services to individuals and families around the country. Proceeds will go to one of the organisation’s many projects which include child and youth care, social development, family care and care for the aged and people with disabilities.
Landscaper Juanita Knox said, “I have had the pleasure of working on putting in unique and wonderful gardens in partnership with the owners.” Knox will give a talk on garden rejuvenation on the day and sell her handbooks on garden design.
The gardens are as follows:
5 Usutu Drive (off Valley Road)
This Cape Dutch home has an abstract garden, developed to enhance the crossover from traditional to modern. A vegetable garden provides food for this family throughout the year.
19 Pallinghurst Road
A grand Harvey Clayton altered by Herbert Baker home is resplendent in an old English floral garden.
47 The Valley Road
Moot House boasts a garden of many colours including plantings in both shade and sun. The owner has an exceptional love for her garden and keeps it looking its best.
