Wits Faculty of Health Sciences hosts Research Day and Postgraduate Expo

PARKTOWN – The much-anticipated Wits Faculty of Health Sciences Research Day and Postgraduate Expo was held recently.

The biennial event is a Wits tradition that brings together academic staff researchers and postgraduate students in all fields of health sciences to present their studies and engage in debate on a variety of topics.

The day commenced with the inaugural Phillip V Tobias Plenary lecture to commemorate the remarkable life of the late Emeritus Professor Phillip Tobias who inspired generations of medical and science students throughout his long and illustrious career spanning 50 years at Wits.

The day had 90 oral and 298 poster presentations, across five thematic areas: Clinical Sciences and Therapeutics for Health; Education Policy Systems; Infectious Diseases; Diseases of Lifestyle; and Molecular and Comparative Biosciences covering the full spectrum of research in the faculty.

Chair of the Organising Research Day Committee at Wits, Professor Elena Libhaber said, “The presenters, speakers and invited lecturers have made an important and meaningful contribution to health sciences in an era of global challenges.”
