Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund hands Mandela-signed Ford Ranger Wildtrak to auction winner
Founder and CEO of Plataforma Asia and Indian Ocean Group Pradeepto Kumar Biswas won the vehicle, part of an auction held in honour of the fund’s 30th birthday anniversary.
At a handover ceremony on June 18, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, in Saxonwold, gave the world’s only ever Ford Ranger Wildtrak, bearing Nelson Mandela’s official signature, to Pradeepto Kumar Biswas.
The founder and CEO of Plataforma Asia and Indian Ocean Group received the car as the winner of an auction, part of the 30th birthday celebrations of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.

The 30th birthday celebrations raised over R1m towards the ongoing funding of programmes focusing on child protection, youth leadership, health, education, and sustainable livelihoods.
The proceeds from the auction will support the fund’s work to advance the rights, protection, well-being, and development of children across South Africa.
Dr Linda Ncube-Nkomo, chief executive officer of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, said the handover was a reminder that Madiba’s legacy continues through practical acts of generosity. “This vehicle is more than a one-of-a-kind collector’s item; it represents hope, partnership, and a shared commitment to children.”
Ncube-Nkomo added that the fund is deeply grateful to Biswas for his generous support and the contribution will help the fund continue the work Nelson Mandela passionately championed, which includes protecting children, strengthening communities, and creating opportunities for young people to thrive.

“Nelson Mandela’s values of dignity, equality, and service have shaped generations. Owning this incredible vehicle is indeed such a privilege, but the real honour is knowing that this contribution will support the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and its work to improve the lives of children.” He added that the gesture was not only about a vehicle; it was about investing in the future Madiba wanted for every child.
Neale Hill, president of Ford Motor Company Africa, said the company was proud to have been associated with the initiative.
“Ford is deeply honoured to have been part of a project that celebrates Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy. For us, it remains critical that we continue this, as we champion what brings us together as a nation.”
After the handover, Biswas was taken on a guided tour of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital, one of the most visible expressions of Madiba’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare for children.
