Police bust woman with three illegal firearms

YEOVILLE – A woman was arrested by Yeoville police in possession of three unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

According to police, the incident took place at the corner of Arthur Street and St Georges Road. Yeoville police spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji said the police were following information about a mall robbery which took place at Littleton policing area where a cell phone store was robbed. Malatji said, “Following the robbery, the police managed to trace and arrest one suspect who was hiding in a guest house in Yeoville. The suspect later led the police to the second suspect at the corner of Paddock and Bezuidenhout streets.”

He said the suspects led the police to where the firearms were hidden at the corner of Arthur Street and St Georges Road. Malatji said, “On arrival the suspects pointed at a woman as the one who hid the firearms for them.” The 36-year-old woman allegedly showed the police three 9mm pistols and was arrested for being in possession of three unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The woman ís expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court soon facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. However the two men were expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of business robbery. The two suspects are linked to a mall robbery in Pretoria.
