Traffic pointsman says ‘f*** you’ to driver

PARKTOWN A traffic points man in Parktown has been accused of verbal abuse.

Motorist Leon de Ridder claimed that on the morning of 27 October, at the corner of St Andrews Road and St Davids Place, a traffic points man was standing passively.

De Ridder said that he indicated with his arms asking who has right of way and the points men ignored him, when he drove past, the man allegedly uttered the profanity “f*** you”.

Colleen Bekker of Traffic Free Flow, the company which hires and manages traffic points men said, “We take this very seriously, and we frown upon this sort of behaviour.”

The points man in question has been asked to submit his statement to human resources. Bekker said internal disciplinary processes will be followed, which will include participation from the complainant.

The company, with sponsorship from corporate entities such as Outsurance, prides itself on being able to provide relief for traffic congestion in Johannesburg, while simultaneously providing job opportunities for people from underprivileged communities.
