Gang of female thieves pick-pocket shopper

CRAIGHALL PARK - A gang of three women have been caught on CCTV footage pick-pocketing a customer at Pick n Pay in Craighall Park.

Marsha Jansen, was shopping at around 4pm on 3 November, when a woman approached her asking for help.

The unnamed woman claimed she was looking for bird seed and showed Jansen a piece of paper, Jansen had left her handbag in the trolley with the handles wrapped around the handle, ensuring the bag was closed.

While she was assisting the woman with choosing the right birdseed, another two women shuffled past her as one of them opened her handbag and removed her wallet. “I immediately noticed and called for security” said Jansen.

She notes that the woman who first approached her about the birdseed further tried to distract her when she caught sight of her wallet being stolen.

By the time security had reacted them, all three women had allegedly exited the shop, fled to the parking lot and drove off in a silver car.

The case was reported at the Linden Police Station.

It is unknown if there have been any other cases of a similar nature occurring in the area.

The Pick n Pay branch has declined to comment on the incident.
