Maftown Heights is back

MAFTOWN Heights, the biggest event on the South African hip-hop calendar, takes place on 28 November at Newtown Park.

Celebrating the hip-hop sub-genre known as motswako, which is a mixture of Setswana and English rap, the event is also an ode to the sub-genre´s birthplace, Mafikeng – known to all the cool kids as Maftown.

Maftown Heights boasts of some of motswako´s biggest stars such as Khuli Chana, Tuks, JR and Morafe. The event also showcases the hottest up-and-coming motswakolostas – Cassper Nyovest, whose hit single Doc Shebeleza has been a mainstay on dance floors across the country. Nyovest also recently released his highly-anticipated album Tsholofelo.

Friends of motswako such as AKA, K.O, Reason and Ricky Rick are also billed to perform on what is said to be one of the biggest nights in South African hip-hop, they will be supported by DJs Speedsta, Dimplez and Lemonka, among others.

Hosted for the second time in an outdoor venue, Maftown Heights is set to attract a larger crowd than ever before, and for those looking for a raucous night of bopping to the urban youth culture´s soundtrack, then you can´t afford to miss this one.
