SHOCKING: Mother sells daughter as sex slave

ORANGE GROVE - ‘Yes I did it, so what?’ that was allegedly uttered by a mother who is behind bars for allegedly using her daughter as a sex slave for money.

According to police, they registered a case of sexual assault against the mother and the girl’s stepfather after the 16-year-old reported the matter to them.

Norwood police spokesperson Sergeant Nurse Sanyane said after the daughter reported the matter they went to the girl’s home and arrested the couple.

Sanyane said the couple was aggressive when they got to the station, swearing and shouting. Sanyane said when the mother was interviewed she showed no remorse for what she was accused of and allegedly admitted that she did it.

“The mother said, ‘Yes, I did it so what?’,” revealed Sanyane.

She said the traumatised girl told police that her mother would invite men to come to their house to have sexual intercourse with her in return for money for the mother.

“When the child refused, the mother allegedly threatened her saying, ‘If you don’t do it you won’t have food’, and the girl had no choice but to do it,” she said.

“However at the moment it is not clear as to how long the girl’s ordeal had been happening,” Sanyane said.

She added that on the day of the arrest the mother had allegedly beaten up the teenager and that her stepfather had allegedly strangled her. Sanyane said the case was transferred to Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation.

The teenager had a message for her peers and parents, “Please kids, don’t be a devil’s child, be a child of God. Parents who bring children to earth and hate them [are] not good.”

This came just after President Jacob Zuma was at Reiger Park, Ekurhuleni, at the official launch of the 16 Days of Activism campaign for no violence against women and children with the theme Count me in. This international campaign started on 25 November and runs until 10 December, to raise awareness of the negative impact violence has on women, children and society. However, South Africa is expanding 16 days into a year-long, intensified programme. Addressing Parliament on 21 November, the Minister of Women in the Presidency, Susan Shabangu said, “Imagine living in a society where we no longer read or hear about the abuse that women and children often suffer at the hands of heartless perpetrators.”
