UPDATE: Serval cat shot to death in CBD

JOBURG - A Serval cat has apparently been fatally shot in the Joburg CBD.

UPDATE:8 December 2014, 9:30am – There’s a new twist to the story of the Serval that was reported to have been killed in the Joburg CBD.

Recent reports have uncovered that the Serval was not killed in the CBD, but rather killed elsewhere and placed in a green bag to be dumped in the CBD.

A postmortem was conducted on the Serval to reveal that it was not shot, but rather stabbed in the neck.

Initial report, 5 December 2014, 9:30am – It is unclear at this stage how the animal came to be in the city centre, and why it was shot.

Many reported earlier that the cat was a cheetah, but photos clearly show that it is in fact a serval.

Natasha Joseph @TashJoeZA tweeted “I imagine there are some traumatised domestic cats and dogs who crossed paths with that poor serval in the past few days.”

E-Blockwatch founder Andre Snyman confirmed that the animal had been shot.

This is a developing story. More information will follow as it becomes available.

Joburg City Parks’ Jenny Moodley said that the Joburg Zoo was unaware of the situation and could provide no further comment.
