Craighall and surrounding areas in safe hands
PARKVIEW - Randburg Police Station say they have no problems policing their new extended area.
From December last year, the Randburg Police Station took over the suburbs ‘situated in the triangle’ between Jan Smuts Avenue and William Nicol Drive, namely Riepen Park, Hurlingham and Glendrienne.
Average response time was cited as a major concern for residents and station commander of the Randburg Police Station Brigadier Lettie Hugo made it clear that it had been a challenge reaching the extended areas, however she stated that they had no major issues.
“Even though it’s a big area, we have no major problems with response times,” said Hugo.
She explained that it typically took a police officer five to ten minutes to reach a destination when called, provided that there were no other serious matters present in the area at the time.
Warrant Officer Johannes Maja urged community members to use the correct numbers when reporting crimes or calling for assistance as this would cut the time in which a police officer would be able to reach the scene.
Hugo also explained that each sector is allocated four police officers which are responsible for patrols and complaints and are on call 24/7. The sectors are also allocated with two vehicles each which are also on call 24/7.
Hugo urged the community to work together with the police station. “We need community involvement as they are our ears and eyes; without their participation it is extremely difficult,” she said.
Community members need to speak out against corruption within the police force. “I urge anyone who is not happy with the service to call us or email us.”
