Major accident in Craighall

CRAIGHALL - A major car accident occurred between two passenger vehicles at around 9.15am on 22 January.

The incident occurred at the corner of Burnside and Jan Smuts avenues, during the morning peak time traffic.

A white Suzuki Ertiga with a Free State license plate collided with a white Mercedes c200 Compressor. According to eye witnesses, one of the vehicles involved in the accident flipped twice after the collision.

CSS Tactical’s Captain Solly Mvundle and Corporal Judas Mathobela explained that according to both the drivers, the white Suzuki was travelling down Jan Smuts and sped through a red traffic light, colliding with the white Mercedes, who was turning onto Jan Smuts Avenue from Burnside Avenue.

Mvundle, who took statements from both the drivers, said the driver of the Suzuki vehicle allegedly explained his haste by stating that he was in a rush to write an exam. The female passenger of the Suzuki sustained injuries from the accident and was taken to Helen Joseph Hospital in an ambulance.

The drivers of both the Suzuki and the Mercedes vehicles were unharmed.

Tow trucks, Johannesburg Metro police, an ER24 ambulance and CSS Tactical Security were all on the scene. Traffic was slowed, but not seriously obstructed by the accident.
