The 30-year-old entrepreneur started his journey as a young 10-year-old helping his father sell clothes in his shop, but it was only after he matriculated that Semenya took his passion to the next level.

Having studied shoe design and manufacturing, and gained experience in the UK, Semenya returned to South Africa wanting to become his own boss.

“I felt working for someone or some company had limited growth potential in the long run for me. I wanted to be in a working environment where I would determine my own rules and working hours, and was willing to take the risk of starting my own business to realise this,” he said.

However, this would not be as simple as Semenya had hoped as finding an affordable location was difficult.

“This led me to pursue the mobile concept after seeing a mobile coffee shop. Selling clothes out the boot of a car was nothing new, but I wanted to do it differently. Thus, I began researching mobile clothing businesses with booming business models in America,” he explained.

“Though there is no business plan template for this kind of business, I used the knowledge I had learned from school and my experience in retail clothing to put together Suits 2 Suit.”

The entrepreneur has since bought himself a VW caddy which he’s branded as his own mobile billboard.

“I’m still in the process of growing the brand and the last five months of running the business have been exciting. I also hope my business will aspire entrepreneurs to think out the box and consider alternative business concepts,” he said.
