Armed suspects arrested for robbery

EMMARENTIA - Five suspects between the ages of 23 and 33 have been arrested in connection with a robbery at the Botanical Gardens Emmarentia, Johannesburg.

Parkview police Constable Magezi Maluleke and Constable Percy Kgatla were on routine patrol when they were called just before 11am to assist at the Botanical Gardens, Johannesburg.

“They immediately drove to the scene. Upon arrival they found security officers in the company of five suspects and the victim who was allegedly robbed of a cellphone and other valuables at the park while she was walking her dogs,” said spokesperson for the Parkview police, Lloyd Ramovha.

Ramovha appealed to victims of recent muggings at the Botanical Gardens to come forward for the purpose of an identity parade to enable the police to link the suspects with previous cases.

The suspects remain in custody at Parkview Police Station and will appear at the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court to face charges of armed robbery as well as possession of dangerous weapons.
