WWF wants you to show your love for Joburg

JOBURG - Earth Hour is coming up again on 28 March and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is encouraging you to represent Joburg, the city you love, with their We Love Cities campaign.

Joburg could be the lucky city to take on a number of initiatives to assist its rejuvenation and help to create a sustainable future for the wildlife.

WWF has detailed where and how the funds will be used in the city that wins the campaign.

“A green bond of $140 million will be used for initiatives such as the installation of 43 000 solar water heaters. These heaters will lead to energy savings that could power a small town.” In addition to the green bond, Johannesburg has mapped its carbon footprint, enabling the City to make more informed decisions about climate change mitigation.”

The foundation also encourages people to make better decisions for the environment.

This includes using non-motorised forms of transportation to get around, keeping the streets clean by making use of bins, making sustainable choices for the city and nature, and designing new, trendy and green buildings to reduce carbon emissions.

The website created by WWF to promote a better and more sustainable city is running a competition along with the campaign where you can vote for your favourite city – Joburg of course – and should the City receive the most number of votes by 9 April, it will be the beneficiary of the funds from the campaign.

Share the love for your city on social media to put Joburg in the running to become the most-loved city in the world and furthermore help create a sustainable city for the future.
