WATCH: Reckless taxi drivers on Jan Smuts Avenue

BORDEAUX - THE early morning rush on Jan Smuts Avenue is becoming too dangerous for motorists.

A video posted on YouTube by motorist Nevarda Wilson shows how taxi drivers completely ignore the rules of the road, and blatantly turn a one-way lane into a two-way lane to dodge traffic.

The video shows taxi drivers swerving through oncoming traffic, endangering the lives of themselves and other motorists.

eNCA reported that Metro police were at their wits’ end with taxi drivers who simply ignored road rules.

Wilson told eNCA that she used the road daily and believed taxi drivers warned each other when a police vehicle was in the vicinity.

Metro police reportedly said they had tried everything to curb taxi drivers’ behaviour, and would continue to arrest the culprits and issue fines.

When Rosebank Killarney Gazette contacted councillor Tim Truluck for comment, he said, “The main problem is the lack of law enforcement and when the Metro police are there the taxi drivers are well behaved.

“Congestion of our roads is also a problem so the taxis use suburb side streets to avoid the congested streets.”
