Business and Arts finalists announced

PARKTOWN - The finalists for the Business and Arts Awards were announced in style at the Hollard Villa Arcadia.

This year about 60 finalists will hope for a win in one of the 11 categories set out by the Business Arts South Africa (Basa) at their 18th annual awards in September.

Basa partnered with Hollard to honour and announce the finalists in style at the Hollard Villa Arcadia with live entertainment. Each finalist received a specially decorated box with a letter stating that they were official finalists in the Basa awards.

“These awards are of particular importance because businesses that are in an equitable partnership with the arts and helping the economy need to acknowledged and recognised,” said Michelle Constant chief executive of Basa.

Basa is an internationally recognised South African development agency with national and international programmes. They encourage partnerships between business and the arts, contributing to corporate success and securing the future development of the arts sector in South Africa.

“We wish them all the best of luck for the Awards ceremony in September but recognise that all the finalists have made important contributions to our society,” said Hollard’s Warwick Bloom.

Virgina Pilane from Bakgatla-ba-Kgatela expressed her joy by commenting that being a finalist has made her feel on top of the moon. She added that it was an honour to be a finalist and be amongst some of the top guns in business and art. “As a newcomer and from a rural community. It is great that we [people who are part of the company] were able to preserve our culture and still be recognised at these awards.”

Another overjoyed finalist, Werner Mehnen, said it was fantastic to see how law and art can work so well in coming together to benefit the community.

Some of the categories in this year’s Basa include:

  • Innovation award
  • Increasing access to the arts award
  • International sponsorship award
  • Media sponsorship award
  • Strategic project award
  • Sponsorship in kind award
  • Development award
  • Arts and the environment award.
