Jozi Book Fair releases jam-packed programme
JOBURG - Khanya College, host of the Jozi Book Fair, is bringing Joburg a completely new take on the written word.
The fair, which will run from 11 to 13 September, will not only be a fair to celebrate the written word, but also the word in its oral form.
“This year, we will have a jazz festival, theatre show and we’re also bringing films from different countries,” explained trainee programmes manager of Khanya College, Nosipho Mdeltshe.
“We want to cater for different people because some people don’t like to read, so we wanted to bring the film version or theatre production of some of the books to link each form of expression.”
This year, the college has revived its partnership with Wits from the 80s to deepen the culture of reading and writing as part of promoting democracy and transformation, and bring together all social classes to engage in debates and build tolerance and citizenship.
Throughout the weekend there will be 120 events held under the Jozi Book Fair umbrella. The fair will also host a number of talks from local and international writers, in addition to a number of musicians who will perform throughout the event.
Students at Wits University will perform original stage productions such as Dead Roses and Kafka’s Ape.
Feya Faku will be one of the jazz performers who will take part in the jazz festival, alongside Soni Jazz Band and Dimpie Tshabalala.
There is even a kids zone where the little ones can read some classic children’s novels.
The programme is officially available online to check out all the activities that will take place during the fair.
