The future is looking bright for KES U14 cricketers

HOUGHTON - The King Edward VII School U14 cricket team has grown in leaps and bounds under the guidance of coach, Arthur da Mata, who said the unity within the team had been key.

The team participated in the Charl van Rooyen U14 cricket festival and finished the tournament unbeaten as they dominated their opposition.

Captain of the team, Jason Bracher said, “The team is so close together and very tight as a group, and we work together and there are no individual players. Our goal is to set standards and not to follow standards, so we try and set goals for ourselves and play as hard as we can.”

One of the players who has shown good form for the team is Joshua Streak. The batsman scored a scintillating 158 not out in their game against Paarl Boys.

Streak said his hunger and passion to help the team win was what kept him motivated and grounded. The young batsman said he was inspired by Australian batsman, Steve Smith, and said that one day he hoped he could emulate his role model. His ultimate goal is to play Test cricket.

King Edward has produced 24 players who have gone on to represent South Africa at the highest level.
