Meet the new candidate

HOUGHTON – The municipal by-elections for a new councillor for Ward 73 will be taking place on 11 November, and one of the candidates happens to be a dynamic 26-year-old with a passion for community and a strong drive for politics.

This candidate’s name is Mia Snyman from the Democratic Alliance, and she is in contention for the role of leader of the ward which consists of Houghton Estate, Killarney, Riviera, Norwood, Orchards and Orange Grove.

“I enjoy interacting with residents and I am looking forward to improving their neighbourhoods through developmental initiatives and solving their problems through pushing for better services,” said Snyman.

According to Snyman, she will fight for better service delivery if she becomes the councillor. “My absolute focus is to achieve a level of service within Ward 73 which creates an environment where people are safe, roads and infrastructure are properly maintained, neighbourhoods are clean, and natural and historical sites are preserved. This will help to enhance the sense of community pride in every neighbourhood in the ward.”

The voting stations for the Ward 73 by-elections are as follows:

  • Houghton Primary School
  • Norwood Primary School
  • Killarney Country Club
  • Paterson Park Bowling Club (opposite Norwood police station) during the renovations of the Paterson Park Recreation Centre.
  • Voting times are between 7am and 9pm.
