UPDATE: Man raped at Zoo Lake – Suspect arrested

PARKVIEW - Parkview Police have confirmed that a case of rape has been opened by a Zoo Lake car guard.

UPDATE, 15 December: A 40-year-old man has been arrested by Parkview Police after he allegedly raped a 20-year-old male car guard at Zoo Lake on 14 December.

The incident happened shortly after 4am, and the suspect was arrested that same day just before 6pm.
“We can confirm that a case of rape was reported on Monday,” said spokesperson for the station, Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha.

“Preliminary investigations yesterday just before 6pm, led to the arrest of a suspect, after he was pointed out by the young victim.”

Ramomovha further stated that the incident allegedly occurred in the park while the victim and the perpetrator, who are both residents of the park, were sleeping.

“The suspect is alleged to have threatened to harm the victim with a broken bottle before he raped him.”

The case has since been transferred to the Sexual offences (F.C.S.) Family & Children Services Unit, where the victim will receive trauma counseling.

The suspect is due to appear at Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.

 

Original article, 14 December: It was stated that the male on male rape occurred shortly after 4am on 14 December when a tussle ensued between the car guard and a vagrant within the vicinity of the park.

“We are still looking for the suspect,” stated Parkview Police spokesperson, Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha.

“No arrests have been made and we are currently investigating the matter.”
