UPDATE: Saxonwold Gupta family embroiled in another national scandal

SAXONWALD – The Gupta family, which owns a housing estate in Saxonwold, is embroiled in yet another national scandal which highlight’s the family’s alleged influence over government affairs.

UPDATE: Former ANC MP, Vytjie Mentor has alleged that President Jacob Zuma was present when the Gupta family offered her the Minister of Public Enterprises position.

This according to reports which state that she was offered the ministerial position by the family during a meeting which took place at the family’s home in Saxonwold, and Zuma was in the next room.

She said she was offered the job in exchange for taking business decisions that would benefit the Guptas. She said she refused the offer, hence she did not get the job after Minister of Public Enterprises, Barbara Hogan had been removed.

Mentor added that after she refused the offer, Zuma came into the room.

She revealed this information on her Facebook page and added that if anything happened to her and her family, people must know who was responsible.

Mentor also said the public should expect more information to be revealed by her.

Initial report: This according to reports that state the family offered Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas the position of minister of finance to replace Nhlanhla Nene.

Jonas said in a public statement that he decided to respond to and clarify certain questions that have been in the public domain. “I do so in accordance with my conscience, my political values and the best traditions of my organisation, the ANC, of which I have been a member since my early teens,” he said.

Jonas added that he rejected the offer. “The basis of my rejection of their offer is that it makes a mockery of our hard-earned democracy, the trust of our people and no one, apart from the president of the republic, appoints ministers,” he explained.

The DA and EFF leaders have spoken against President Jacob Zuma and his corrupt government.

The presidency has not yet released a statement on the allegations.
