Get your career on the fast track to success
JOBURG - City Buzz caught up with Khomi Climus ‘KC’ Makhubele at South Africa’s leading staffing solutions company within the white collar recruitment industry and he’s got some career advice.
Makhubele is the managing executive of marketing and strategic relationships at staffing solutions company, Kelly, and an executive at a staffing company based in Sandton, the gentleman knows all the steps to take and things to consider when moving into a new job.
First and foremost, he encourages students and people straight out of high school to take on many short-term contractual jobs to find the job that works for them and to gain experience.
“For people in younger generations, there is a great importance linked to testing careers to find the best fit for their skills and passions,” Makhubele said.
“If you’re in a career that doesn’t serve your interests, then the company’s return on investment to the individual will be minimal.”
City Buzz asked, with the perception that a number of jobs on a CV makes the candidate look unreliable, how it is that a number of short-term jobs would help young professionals get onto the correct career path.
“Remember that a short-term job doesn’t look bad as long as you’ve finished the contract. Taking on a few jobs allows movement, learning and the ability to find the best fit. It’s something that we in South Africa don’t often take into consideration.”
He went on to say that there are three key factors for anyone at any age to consider when taking on a new job. The reason for taking another job should serve in the interest of your career trajectory and it is therefore important to carefully consider your reasons and career path.
Most importantly, Makhubele emphasised that you should never burn your bridges once you leave a company because those old contacts may be important to have in the future.
