SHOCKING: Illegal Bramley creche closed down following toddler drowning
BRAMLEY – Read how the department of social development clamped down on an illegal creche in Bramley after a 19 month-old child drowned in a swimming pool.
An creche operating illegally in Bramley has allegedly been shut down by the Gauteng department of Social Development following the drowning of a toddler in a swimming pool.
This according to reports which stated that the department shut down the Rose Day Care centre today, 5 April, following the drowning of Owami Ndlovu in an unsecured swimming pool.
The Johannesburg Emergency Management Services also confirmed the death of Ndlovu, with spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi explaining that the toddler died after he fell into a pool.
“We received a call about the incident and upon arrival, the toddler was confirmed dead by our workers,” he said
Department officials cited various hazards at the creche which led to the shutdown while Ndlovu’s parents blamed the caregivers for being negligent while their 19-month-old son who was under their care.
Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Bramley Police Station, also confirmed the incident and said they were investigating the matter.
“An inquest into the death of the toddler has been opened and we are currently investigating the matter,” he confirmed.
