UPDATE: Police commissioner stops armed robbers at spa in Dunkeld

JOBURG - It is believed a shootout took place in Dunkeld earlier today.

UPDATE: 7:15pm – According to SAPS spokesperson, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, the police commissioner had visited the spa with his wife.

Mulaudzi said that while police commissioner, Khomotso Phahlane was waiting for his wife at the spa, 2 balaclava clad men entered the spa.

Mulaudzi said, “The two men brandished firearms believed to be pistols and a scuffle ensued between the commissioner and the 2 men. The men then decided to flee the scene and one of them fired a shot as they left. They were seen leaving the scene in a silver grey VW Golf. The commissioner suffered minor injuries and nothing was stolen from the spa. An investigation is currently being carried out by SAPS.”

INITIAL REPORT: 5 June 2016, 18:45pm –  According to reports, a shootout took place on Bompass Road in Dunkled earlier today.

It is believed that the incident took place near the Yothaya Thai Spa and ENCA have reported that acting national police commissioner, Khomotso Phahlane was injured in the crossfire.
