They were arrested in Yeoville for the robbery that they committed on 28 August last year.
Spokesperson for Yeoville Police Station, Constable Thabo Malatji said the investigating officer, Detective Constable Ronald Hlengani worked round the clock to ensure that a successful prosecution and conviction was secured. Mbambo Skumbuzo (32) was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and Dube Tobias (27) and Ncube Clayton (27) to 10 years each.
Malatji explained that the three had approached the victim and robbed him of his belongings, stabbing him three times in the upper body. “The police patrolling around noticed the robbery, and the three suspects were arrested. They were charged with armed robbery and assault and appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court and were denied bail,” Malatji said.
“This sentencing will serve as a deterrent to the would-be criminal that crime does not pay,” concluded Malatji.
